With Persuasion (Back & Forth) the first single off his upcoming debut album For Triangles, Joe Galen delivers a sensitive yet upbeat folksy song that plunges you head first into his contrasted world. Soft flutes accompany strident chimes, while a deep piano compounds the bass line, electronia twirls flickering between the bars. Joe Galen’s gentle voice brings a delicate and quirky balance to make Persuasion (Back & Forth) a timeless and messy pop song with a catchy hook.

The single contains two exclusives remixes. Texas-based Ernest Gonzales turns his buoyant ‘Persuaded’ version to become a dancefloor hit, adding a strong kick, glitchy sounds, shuffled rhythmics, claps and subtely cutting the vocals. While mysterious Joe Galen’s fellow Mancunian Jason Waterfalls chops the melody up to bring out a sophisticated and peaceful instrumental version, replacing the voice with acoustic rhythms, and electronic sounds. Pianos and guitars build a majestic, organic and warm remix.

The record is now due to be released during November, so not too long to wait now. In the mean time I’ve just launched my Myspace and Facebook pages, so if you’re on either of those social networks look me up. You can really make a big difference for me by adding me and inviting your friends, maybe we can send my music viral. The whole reason I make music, is for people to hear it and enjoy it, so the more people that do that: the better.

In other news, rehersals of my live act will be beginning soon. The group of musicians that are getting together are incredibly talented and I think we’re going to have one hell of a show. Once we’ve got to a decent level I’ll post videos of our rehersals. Watch this space.

I finished my 3 year degree in Interactive Arts a few weeks ago, I’ve now started to get fairly nostagic. I’m going to miss the atmosphere, but hopefully not miss my friends as I’m sure we’ll keep in touch in one form or another. Just after I finished, I remembered this video ‘The Whole Kit & Caboodle’ – it was the first assignment I ever did for University, over the summer before I started. Given simply the brief The Whole Kit & Caboodle, I made a song, a video and asked people the question “What is the Whole Kit & Caboodle?” – give it a go :o)

Also I went to my friend’s sister’s band’s gig the other night, at Night and Day; Molly Macleod. It was great, go check her out, she’s got a lovely voice and really nice folky songs.

The recording has been quite a journey, taking me through 4 different houses, 5 guitars, 3 keyboards, 25 ups, 72 downs, 1052 words, 3 sound cards, 2 computers, 2 microphones, approximately 312 eggs and about 752 days off.

But I’m nearly there now and with it comes a certain apprehension. It is the knowing that I’ll have to free my songs and let them live their own existences. No longer can I be the over-protective father that I have been up until now.

I guess life really does move along so fast, here’s an old demo version of “Moving Life” which will be on the album.
